LOUISVILLE, KY -- Bellarmine Knights Field Hockey suffered their third 2-1 loss in their last four contests, dropping their home match against the Saint Louis Billikens on Friday afternoon at Trager Stadium. With the result, the Knights fall to 0-5 on the season while Saint Louis improves to 3-1.
The Knights drew first blood in the contest, as
Luna Tuncay scored her first goal of the season off a bump from
Alicia Hudson following the insertion from
Brooke Buchanan with just over nine minutes to go in the first quarter. Saint Louis found the equalizer off of a penalty corner of their own a minute and a half into the second quarter. Following another penalty corner opportunity,
Alicia Hudson was awarded a penalty shot, but was unable to convert. The Billikens took the lead on an unassisted goal with just over four minutes remaining in the period, giving them a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Both defenses locked things down in the third quarter, as a Saint Louis penalty corner with 8:19 to go in the period represented the only real scoring opportunity for either side. The Knights prevented the Billikens from converting, and the score remained 2-1 going into the fourth quarter. Saint Louis found more opportunities to begin the final period, but one shot was wide and
Kailey Workman was able to save another shot to keep the deficit to one goal. With 4:32 remaining, the Knights were afforded another penalty corner, but this time Tuncay was unable to find the back of the net and the Knights were unable to get off another shot.
Tuncay led the Knights with four shots, two of which were on goal.Â
Alicia Hudson had two shots, both of which were on goal. Overall, the Knights and the Billikens played each other evenly all afternoon, as each team registered six shots, four shots on goal, and they each had four corner opportunities. Workman recorded a pair of saves.
The Knights will remain home on Sunday, taking on the Davidson Wildcats at 3:30 PM ET.
