Women's soccer opens ASUN play with trips to Austin Peay, Lipscomb

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The latter half of a season-long four-game road swing represents the beginning of Atlantic Sun Conference play for the Bellarmine University women's soccer team.

Bellarmine (6-0-2) will head to Tennessee for a pair of matches, opening conference action at 7 p.m. (ET) Thursday at Austin Peay (0-5-3) before a 2 p.m. (ET) clash Sunday at Lipscomb (4-3-1).

Heading into ASUN play, Bellarmine has already set new D1-era program records for wins (six) and unbeaten streak (eight) in the first year under head coach Steve Bornhoffer.

ABOUT AUSTIN PEAY
Austin Peay may be seeking its first win, but the Governors are coming off two clean sheets after scoreless draws with Murray State and Western Kentucky. Three of APSU's losses were by 1-0 results, and the Governors have not conceded more than one goal in the last five games. Goalkeeper Lauryn Berry has recorded three shutouts and carries an .810 save percentage. The Govs' offense is searching for a breakthrough — it's amassed 25 shots on goal but hasn't located the net thus far this season.

ABOUT LIPSCOMB
ASUN preseason favorite Lipscomb will host Eastern Kentucky on Thursday ahead of its matchup with Bellarmine. The Bisons are the reigning ASUN Tournament champions and are coming off a 14-4-4 campaign. Lipscomb ended the Knights' season in heartbreaking fashion last year with a 2-1 win in double overtime in the ASUN Tournament quarterfinals. The Bisons are coming off a 3-0 road loss to Alabama but preceded that with 1-0 and 6-0 home wins over Middle Tennessee and Mercyhurst, respectively. Preseason All-ASUN Team selection Bella Carapazza has tallied two goals and three assists.

KNIGHTS NOTES:
• Bellarmine, Austin Peay and Lipscomb are in the ASUN Gold Division. Regular-season competition is intra-division only in the conference this year, so the Knights will also host the Governors and Bisons.
• The Governors hold a 2-0-2 advantage over Bellarmine in the D1 era, although in their most recent matchup, the seventh-seeded Knights did advance after following an official 1-1 draw against sixth-seeded APSU with a 4-3 win in penalty kicks in the first round of the 2024 ASUN Tournament.
• Bellarmine is the lone remaining unbeaten team in the ASUN. Eastern Kentucky (5-1-2) is the lone one-loss team. The Knights almost certainly have been viewed as the surprise of the conference thus far after having been picked 10th of 12 in the ASUN preseason coaches' poll.
• Bellarmine is 4-0 on the road this season, collecting wins at Asbury (11-0), Wright State (2-1), Morehead State (2-1) and Kennesaw State (1-0).
• Senior forward Lucy von Stefenelli sank a penalty kick in the second half in accounting for the game-winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Kennesaw State.
• Sophomore forward McKenzie Carle and redshirt senior defender Sidney Rigsby were named to the Preseason All-ASUN Team. Rigsby assisted on both of Carle's goals in the 2-1 win over Morehead State.
• Redshirt freshman Anna Jenkins is a two-time ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week this season.
