Unbeaten women's soccer prevails 2-1 at Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio — The Bellarmine University women's soccer team scored early in each half on the way to posting a 2-1 victory over Wright State on Thursday night at Alumni Field.

Sophomore forward McKenzie Carle notched a goal and an assist for Bellarmine (4-0-1), which through five games in the Steve Bornhoffer era is only win short of tying its Division I-era program record. Sophomore midfielder Campbell Tippey tallied a goal, and redshirt sophomore defender Cameron Dye collected an assist against Wright State (1-5).

Coming off a 2-1 home victory over Indiana that represented one of the most high-profile wins in program history, Bellarmine struck quickly against Wright State, as Carle recorded her third goal of the season after finding the net in the ninth minute. Dye assisted on the play.

The Raiders leveled the contest in the 16th minute on a goal by Samara Nunn, and the teams went into halftime tied at 1.

That changed quickly in the second half, as Bellarmine went up 2-1 in the 52nd minute on Tippey's third goal of the season. Carle assisted on Tippey's score, which marked her fourth game-winning goal in two years.

The shot attempts were largely even, with Wright State holding a 9-8 advantage and both teams putting six on frame. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Anna Jenkins accumulated five saves for Bellarmine.

The Knights will host Southern Indiana at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
