LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The clang of the crossbar rang out on multiple occasions, but the Bellarmine University and Southern Indiana women's soccer teams ultimately played to a scoreless draw Sunday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Bellarmine (4-0-2) remained unbeaten, but the Knights probably left Frazier Stadium shaking their heads after tripling the shot output of Southern Indiana (2-5-1) but walking away with a stalemate.
Sophomore midfielders
Aubrey Bally and
Brynn Severance both ripped a shot off the crossbar. Sophomore midfielder
Mckenzie Price socked a header off a cross from Bally that forced an incredible kick save from USI goalkeeper Anna Markland to prevent a goal.
And not for nothing, but replays confirmed that sophomore forward and reigning ASUN Freshman of the Year
McKenzie Carle was taken down from behind by a USI defender inside the box in the second half on a highly disputed no-call.
Southern Indiana had some near misses as well. The Screaming Eagles had a shot carom off the crossbar, and they were off the mark from very close range a few times.
Bellarmine finished with a 21-7 advantage in shots, but it was a much closer 4-2 on frame and 7-5 in corner kicks, with redshirt senior defender
Sidney Rigsby regularly snuffing out USI opportunities with header clearances.
Bellarmine's defense earned its third clean sheet of the season. It was the first time the offense was shut out this year.
The Knights celebrated Senior Day and honored
Dakota Bramer,
Lucy von Stefenelli,
Shelby Smith,
Clara Spurlock,
Sophie Roebel and
Emily Passini.
Bellarmine will play at 7 p.m. (ET) Thursday at Morehead State.
