LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team celebrated Senior Night and Alumni Weekend.
The festivities turned out to be a jolly prelude to the grand finale Saturday night at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium, which was a critical 3-0 triumph over Lipscomb in Atlantic Sun Conference action.
Senior midfielder
Colin Mackey recorded a brace for Bellarmine (7-3-4, 2-3-2 ASUN), which delivered in a big way in what was undoubtedly approached as a must-win game. Junior midfielder
Teddy Franke also tallied a goal against the Bisons (3-10-1, 2-5).
The top-ranked defense in the ASUN, Bellarmine posted its sixth shutout of the season and third in the last four games. Senior goalkeeper
Tudor Iordan collected the clean sheet behind four saves.
Mackey got the scoring started in the 11th minute when he stole a pass near midfield, made a run up the right side, cut back and laced a shot from the top of the box inside the near post.
Bellarmine added to the lead in the 34th minute on Franke's fifth goal of the season. He headed in a deflected shot off the foot of junior midfielder
Kanata Taira.
Mackey bookended Bellarmine's trio of goals in the 69th minute. After receiving a pass from senior midfielder
Tate McCrery, Mackey slotted a shot inside the right post for his fourth goal of the season.
Bellarmine finished with a 16-10 advantage in shots, including 8-4 on goal.
Bellarmine honored Mackey, McCrery, Iordan,
