ST. LOUIS, MO — Despite tying a season high with three home runs, the Bellarmine University baseball team fell 13-3 to Saint Louis in a series opener Friday at SLU Baseball Field.
All three of the runs for Bellarmine (2-7) came via the long ball. Senior third baseman
Luke Scales launched a pair of solo homers, and freshman second baseman
Jake Bell added another for the Knights. That duo is tied for the team lead with three homers apiece this season.
After trailing 5-0, the three round-trippers cut Bellarmine's deficit to two in the sixth. However, Saint Louis (2-8) responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and plated five in the seventh to invoke the run-rule.
Scales and Bell had two hits apiece for Bellarmine. The Billikens finished with 13 hits.
The teams were scheduled to play Saturday and Sunday, but they will now conclude the series with a 2 p.m. ET (1 CT) doubleheader Saturday.
