Karasinski surpasses 1,000 career points; Knights extend winning streak to four Saturday vs. FGCU

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Jack Karasinski surpassed 1,000 career points as Bellarmine extended their winning streak to four straight with an 81-65 win over Florida Gulf Coast Saturday afternoon at Knights Hall.

Bellarmine (11-13) improved to 6-6 in the ASUN, evening their conference record for the first time since finishing the 2021-22 season 9-9 in conference.

FGCU (10-15, 4-8 ASUN) has now dropped four of their last six, but now has four straight home games awaiting them after playing five of six on the road.

Karasinski led the Knights in scoring for the third straight game, finishing with 23 on 7-for-9 shooting, 4-for-5 from deep. He rolled in a short hook shot with 1:43 left in the first for his 18th and 19th points of the game and 1,000th and 1,001st career points. The senior's first 202 points of his career came in his first two seasons at William & Mary before transferring to Bellarmine, where he now has 803 points.

Karasinski stated his intentions early, scoring 14 points less than nine minutes into the game to lift Bellarmine to an early 17-12 lead. His 19 in the first half helped the Knights to a 32-31 lead at the break, slightly dampened by a buzzer-beating three by the Eagles' Rory Stewart for his first points.

The Knights scored the first seven points out of the break to go up 39-31 after Brian Waddell found Karasinski for a corner three.

The Eagles closed the gap back to two at 44-42 with 14:25 remaining after an 11-5 run that included threes by George Washington III and Jack Reddick, but it was all Knights from there.

The home team outscored FGCU 37-23 the rest of the way, stretching their lead as high as 19 at 73-54 with 4:08 remaining. With the win, Bellarmine has their first four-game winning streak since January 2022 when they won five straight in ASUN play.

Helping the cause was Tyler Doyle, who continues to fill the box score after tallying 19 points and four assists. The Lexington Catholic product connect on a career-best three treys and has scored double-digit points for a career-high sixth straight game. Sam Donald joined Karasinski and Doyle in double digits with 17, hitting 6 of 7 from the four and all three of his attempts from deep.

J.R. Konieczny led FGCU with 20 points on 9-for-16 shooting. Jordan Ellerbee chipped in 12.

Bellarmine was victorious despite being outrebounded 35-30. The Knights were also outrebounded by West Georgia 30-28 when their winning streak started.

The win closed a four-game homestand for Bellarmine, who is now 8-3 at home. They now take their show on the road where they will look to improved their 2-10 mark by first visiting Central Arkansas on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Knights beat UCA 84-78 in overtime in Knights Hall back on January 8.
