LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University baseball team used timely hitting and a late offensive surge to defeat Austin Peay 9–8 Saturday afternoon at Knights Field, evening the ASUN series at one game apiece.
Austin Peay struck first with a run in the second inning, but Bellarmine answered quickly as Sawyer Pace lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Eli Watson and tie the game.
The Governors surged ahead with a four-run third inning, but the Knights responded immediately in the bottom half. With two outs, Logan Murphy delivered the biggest swing of the day, blasting a grand slam to left field to even the score at 5–5.
Austin Peay regained the lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but Bellarmine stayed within striking distance thanks to a solo home run from Luke Scales in the fifth that cut the deficit to one. Bellarmine's pitching staff kept the game close down the stretch. After starter Chase Carver worked into the fourth inning, Nikau Heeney provided 2.2 innings of relief and allowed just one unearned run while striking out four. Chase Chamberlain followed with two innings of work to earn the win, his first victory of his college career, and Presley Monteforte closed the door in the ninth to secure the victory.
The Knights broke through in the eighth inning. After a leadoff single from Connor Pawlowski and a walk to Jake Bell, Murphy was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Pace singled up the middle to drive in two runs. Landon Akers followed with an RBI groundout to give Bellarmine a 9–7 lead.
Austin Peay threatened in the ninth and pushed across a run, but the Knights held on to seal the 9–8 win. The victory marked Bellarmine's first win over Austin Peay since 2024.
