LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University lacrosse team will wrap up the nonconference portion of its regular-season slate when the Knights welcome Marquette for a noon (ET) contest Saturday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Held on Alumni Appreciation Day, Bellarmine (4-6) and Marquette (3-4) are meeting for the fifth straight year and the eighth time in the last nine seasons. Overall, this is the 12th showdown in a highly competitive series where the Golden Eagles own a slight 6-5 edge. The Knights are 2-2 against MU in Frazier Stadium after posting an 11-5 win in 2024 in the most recent matchup in Louisville.
The most recent meeting overall between the two teams took place last season in Milwaukee, with Marquette securing a 19-11 win. The Golden Eagles built an 11-6 lead at halftime after outscoring Bellarmine 7-3 in the second quarter. The Knights netted the first three goals of the second half to cut their deficit to two, but MU regrouped and scored the next four in a row bridging the third and fourth quarters en route to the victory.
ABOUT MARQUETTE
Like Bellarmine, Marquette lined up a challenging nonconference slate. Three of the Golden Eagles' seven opponents (Michigan, Notre Dame and Harvard) have been nationally ranked. MU is 30th in the country in RPI. The Knights represent Marquette's third straight opponent from the ASUN. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 17-6 home loss to Utah, but they preceded that with a 21-12 home win over Mercer. Four different players have recorded at least 11 goals for MU, with Carsen Brandt's 16 leading the way. He's twice been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Short-stick defensive midfielder Peter Detwiler was recognized as a preseason honorable-mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse.
