LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With inclement weather in Louisville, the Bellarmine University baseball team will travel to Mountain Dew Park in Marion, Illinois, for its weekend series against Eastern Illinois.
Bellarmine (2-9) and Eastern Illinois (4-6) were originally scheduled to meet at Knights Field for Bellarmine's home opening weekend before weather altered the plans. The series will now begin Friday at 8 p.m. (ET), followed by a doubleheader Saturday starting at 3 p.m. (ET).
Last week, Bellarmine traveled to No. 20 Tennessee for a midweek contest, falling 8-3. The Knights battled behind a strong committee effort on the mound, trailing just 1-0 after six innings while allowing only three earned runs. Bellarmine then traveled to Saint Louis for a weekend series against the Billikens, dropping all three games, 13-3 on Friday, 6-4 on Saturday, and 8-0 in the series finale. The Knights were set to host Seton Hall on Tuesday for their home opener before weather moved into the area.
Eastern Illinois enters the series after being swept by Northern Kentucky last weekend (3-1, 8-7, and 20-15). Infielder James Love leads the Panthers offensively with a .429 batting average, 14 RBI, and three home runs. Tyler Conklin and Bryce Riggs pace the Panthers' pitching staff with ERAs of 1.59 and 1.62, respectively. As a team, Eastern Illinois carries a 7.82 ERA.
Bellarmine and Eastern Illinois have met every season since the Knights transitioned to Division I. Eastern Illinois leads the all-time series 6-1, with Bellarmine's lone win coming in 2021 at Knights Field.
