Lacrosse drops home finale against Jacksonville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University lacrosse team suffered a 27-7 loss to Jacksonville on Saturday in Atlantic Sun Conference play at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

With Bellarmine (4-11, 0-4 ASUN) trailing 2-1, Jacksonville (7-5, 3-1) followed with an 8-1 run bridging the first and second quarters that featured seven man-up goals. The Knights were whistled for a three-minute penalty early in the second period that proved to be devastating, as the Dolphins netted six man-up goals in a span of 2:20 to lead 10-2.

Bellarmine never recovered from that man-down-hindered onslaught. Three players recorded hat tricks while 16 total players scored for Jacksonville. Zane Czeschin led the Dolphins with five goals, Jack Taylor registered four along with four assists, and Nicky Brown pocketed three goals.

While Jacksonville sewed up an ASUN Tournament bid Saturday, Bellarmine was eliminated from contention.

Sophomore attack Ezra Moore notched his sixth hat trick of the season after notching three goals for the Knights. Senior attack John Alie supplied two goals and an assist while senior defender Nick Ferge and senior attack Michael Blaymires tallied one apiece. Junior defender Robert MacMichael had four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while freshman midfielder Landon Clark produced three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

The contest represented Bellarmine's home finale. The Knights' season finale will take place at noon (ET) next Saturday at Queens.
