CHARLOTTE, NC — Brotherly love was a theme that resonated deeply in the Bellarmine University lacrosse team's season-ending 16-12 triumph over Queens on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic Sun Conference play at Queens Sports Complex.
In their final collegiate game together, brothers John and
Joe Alie combined for a robust 15 points.
On top of that, the senior class of 2026 — themselves a band of brothers — became the winningest class in program history with the victory, which was the 33rd in the last four years.
Bellarmine (5-11, 1-4 ASUN) ended the season on a positive note and had some individuals end it on a record-breaking note. After six goals in a game had been achieved 12 times previously, including three by
John Alie,
Joe Alie broke through with a program-record seven. The sophomore attack scored twice in the first quarter, once in the second, three times in the third and once in the fourth. Four of the goals came off assists from his brother.
On the 10th of his 11 saves against Queens (4-9, 0-5),
Nolan Hudnut broke his own single-season program record for total saves. The sophomore goalkeeper finishes the year with 214 and cracked double-digit saves in 13 games in 2026.
In addition to his seven goals,
Joe Alie added an assist while racking up a career-high eight points, which was one shy of matching the program record.
John Alie's seven points were one off equaling his career high and consisted of three goals and four assists.
Sophomore attack
Ezra Moore registered two goals and three assists, sophomore midfielder
Ty Washington supplied two goals and two assists, and senior midfielder
Michael Blaymires notched two goals. Freshmen midfielder
Landon Clark contributed an assist and four ground balls.
Although it jumped out to a 3-1 lead, Bellarmine trailed 5-3 early in the second quarter. Four different Knights scored during a 4-0 run that helped spur them to an 8-7 advantage at halftime.
Bellarmine took control of the game in the third quarter, when the Knights outscored the Royals 5-2.
Joe Alie had three goals in the period while
John Alie and Moore both found the net as BU's lead swelled to 13-8.
Bellarmine cruised from there, with Queens never getting closer than four as the teams kept trading goals in the fourth quarter.
Bellarmine was lethal on frame, as the Knights found the net on 16 of their 25 shots on goal. Queens entered the contest with the third-best scoring defense in the ASUN at 11.33 — the Knights' 12th goal came with 2:51 left in the third quarter.
