LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine men's tennis celebrated Senior Day Friday afternoon at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex but fell to Lipscomb 6-1.
Prior to the match, the Knights recognized seniors Zak Vince, Vineet Ramesh, Matthew Nice and Eli Wood for their contributions to the program during their final home appearance.
Bellarmine opened the afternoon with a strong showing in doubles play. The tandem of Eli Wood and Ryan Parkins secured a 6-4 victory over Lipscomb's Oliver Thoeny and Alex Vlahos at No. 1 doubles to give the Knights early momentum. However, the Bisons claimed the remaining two doubles matches to take the opening point.
In singles action, Matthew Nice provided Bellarmine's lone point of the day at the top spot in the lineup. Nice earned a straight-set victory over Facundo Perlov, 6-4, 6-2, continuing his strong senior campaign.
Several other matches were closely contested throughout the afternoon. Zak Vince forced a third set at No. 4 singles after taking the opening frame, but Lipscomb's Oskar Szymczak rallied to claim the match 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Ryan Parkins also battled in a competitive opening set at No. 3 singles before the Bisons secured the remaining points.
The senior class honored Friday has made a lasting impact on the Bellarmine program and etched its name throughout the Knights' record book. Nice currently ranks second in program history with 105 combined singles and doubles victories while holding the school record for career doubles wins with 51. He also ranks fourth all-time in singles wins with 54. Vineet Ramesh sits tied for sixth in program history with 86 combined victories and ranks third all-time in singles wins with 60. Wood also ranks among the program's career leaders, sitting third in combined singles and doubles victories with 94 while placing fifth in singles wins with 52.
The Knights will close out the regular season this Friday on the road against Middle Tennessee at 5 p.m.
