LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine baseball dropped Game 2 of its ASUN Conference series at Lipscomb, falling 6-4 on Friday night at Ken Dugan Field. With the loss, the Knights move to 19-29 overall and 11-15 in ASUN play.
Lipscomb struck early with two runs in the first inning before adding single runs in the second and third to build a 4-0 advantage through the opening three frames. Bellarmine starter Deaton Oak settled in after the early innings, finishing with five innings pitched while striking out three.
The Knights broke through in the sixth inning as Eli Watson and Mason Acton opened the frame with singles before Luca Hoerger launched a three-run homer to left field to cut the deficit to 4-3. Bellarmine continued the momentum into the seventh when Landon Akers doubled into left field before AJ Swader followed with an RBI single to bring the Knights within one.
Lipscomb answered in the bottom half of the seventh inning with a two-RBI double from Damion Kenealy Jr. to extend the lead back to 6-4. Bellarmine was unable to find another late rally over the final two innings.
Hoerger finished with three RBIs on his sixth-inning home run — his 3rd of the season, while Swader recorded two hits and an RBI. Akers and Watson also collected two hits apiece in the loss.
