JACKSONVILLE, Fl. — Bellarmine University's Maddie Carnes was named the ASUN Freshman of the Week for volleyball, the league announced Monday.

A freshman setter, Carnes paced the Bellarmine offense in her first weekend of collegiate volleyball, helping to lead the Knights to a 2-1 record at the Bellarmine Classic. Carnes recorded 110 assists (9.17 per set), 30 digs, nine kills, six blocks and two service aces across the three-match weekend. In her collegiate debut, Carnes registered 28 assists with seven digs and a block. The French Lick, IN native bounced back from the loss to Rutgers in a big way, turning in 47 assists, 17 digs, six kills, four blocks and in ace to help push BU over undefeated Purdue Fort Wayne in five sets. In the weekend finale, she carded 35 assists, six digs, three kills an ace and a block.

Carnes is the first Knight to earn ASUN Freshman of the Week honors since Payton Parsons was acknowledged on September 16, 2024. She joins Parsons and seniors Natalie Bland (two times) and Maddie Hagan as the only Bellarmine volleyball players to earn ASUN Freshman of the Week honors.
