INDIANAPOLIS, In. — Bellarmine volleyball opened its third week of the season on the road at Butler, falling to the Bulldogs 3-1 (14-25, 18-25, 27-25, 18-25) on Thursday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
With the loss, the Knights move to 3-4 on the year while the win improves Butler's record to 6-2.
Freshman
Mady Yaden recorded a match-high 13 kills for the Knights, adding three blocks and three digs. Sophomore
Mary Herman was second on the team with seven kills in addition to three blocks. Junior
Payton Parsons racked up a match-high 27 digs while freshman
Maddie Carnes dished out a match-high 28 assists with 10 digs and the only ace on the night for BU.
As a team, Bellarmine killed itself with errors, committing 31 attack errors and 17 service errors.
Butler took control of the match right out of the gate. The Bulldogs set the pace early and took quick leads in each of the first two sets and never faltered, running out to a 2-0 lead. Bellarmine found its footing in the third. The Knights jumped out to a quick lead and pushed the pace for most of the early scoring. Butler came back and jumped ahead at the media break before the two teams traded points back and forth. BU was able to make a final push to break the late tie and win the set 27-25 to force another set. In the fourth, the Bulldogs once again came out of the gate swinging and kept the pace high, never really giving Bellarmine a chance to get back in the set. The Knights continued however, getting back within two points late, but Butler went on another run to eventually take the set and claim the match 3-1.
Up next, Bellarmine and Butler will conclude its home and home series on Saturday, September 12 when the Bulldogs come to Louisville, KY for a match in Knights Hall.
