Kyle Bernlohr joined the Bellarmine staff as defensive coordinator for 2019 season after previously serving on the staff of Cleveland State University,
In his first season with the Knights, he helped guide defender Josh Wehn to an All-Southern Conference second team selection.
As a player, Bernlohr was one of the top goalies in the country during his collegiate career at Maryland and was a Tewaaraton Award Nominee in each of his final two seasons. A member of four NCAA Final Four teams, he helped the Terrapins to three NCAA Championship game appearances in five seasons.
In 2015, Bernlohr earned the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award, which is given to the National Goalie of the Year. A first team All-America (USILA) and All-Big Ten First Team honoree, he led the country in goals against average (6.95) and was sixth in save percentage (.571). He followed up that outstanding junior year campaign by helping Maryland to its second straight national runner-up finish and picking a Second Team All-America honors from the USILA.
Bernlohr was selected with the 11th overall pick in the second round of the 2016 Major League Lacrosse Draft by the Ohio Machine, becoming the highest drafted goaltender in Maryland history.
Bernlohr won the starting job with the Machine during the 2017 MLL season and experienced tremendous success on a team and individual level. He helped the Machine to the first title in team history while winning the MLL’s Most Improved Player award. Bernlohr led the league with a .567 save percentage, posting 140 stops, and an 11.35 goals against mark (minimum 6 GP). In addition to being named as the Machine’s Defensive Player of the Year, he was selected to the MLL All-Star game and was a finalist for Goalie of the Year.
Bernhlor has continued his professional career in the Premier Lacrosse Leauge (PLL) for the Whipsnakes Lacrosse Club and was named to the PLL All-Star Team in the 2019 season.
