Jeff Johnson joined the Bellarmine University sprint football team's staff as the special teams coordinator prior to the program's inaugural season in 2022.
In the program's first year, Bellarmine had a winning season. The Knights in 2022 went 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the Midwest Sprint Football League, good for third place in the conference. In the first game in program history, Bellarmine captured a 17-15 road victory at Midway on a game-winning 33-yard field goal with 44 seconds left. The Knights earned 12 MSFL All-Conference laurels.
Johnson is a 1984 graduate of DeSales High School in Louisville and was a member of the 1981 state runner-up team. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1988, where he played for legendary coach Roy Kidd. Johnson is in his 10th year of coaching.
Johnson and his wife, Jeri, have four children: sons Chris, Ryan and Austin (the latter both punters for the University of Louisville) and one daughter, Ashley.
