Zack Sims joined the Bellarmine University women’s basketball coaching staff as a graduate assistant in June of 2026
A Louisville native, Sims arrived at Bellarmine after spending four seasons as a student manager with University of Louisville basketball, the first three (2022-25) with the men’s team and the last (2025-26) with the women’s program.
In Sims’ final season as a manager with the Louisville men’s team, the Cardinals delivered a historic turnaround in the first year under Pat Kelsey, going from 8-24 overall and 3-17 in the ACC the previous season to 27-8 overall and 18-2 in conference action, where they tied for second in the league and followed by making their first-ever appearance in an ACC Tournament semifinal or championship game while finishing as the runner-up to No. 1 Duke. The Cards earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Sims experienced further success as a manager with Louisville’s women’s team in 2025-26 under Jeff Walz. The Cardinals went 29-8 overall (tied for the fifth most in program history), placed second in the ACC with a 15-3 mark in the regular season and finished as the runner-up in the ACC Tournament to No. 1 Duke. The Cards followed in the NCAA Tournament with a run to the Sweet 16.
Sims earned a bachelor's degree in sports administration from Louisville and was a four-time member of the Dean’s Scholar List. He attended Floyd Central (Ind.) High School and, as a player, was a member of three Hoosier Hills Conference championship teams and two IHSAA sectional championship squads.
