OWENSBORO, Ky.—The No. 6 Bellarmine men's basketball team was outscored 46-32 in the second half en route to a 81-65 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan College on Saturday night at the Sportscenter.
The loss dropped the Knights to 0-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, with both defeats coming on the road to division opponents. Bellarmine lost 75-62 at the University of Southern Indiana on Thursday night.
Jeremy Kendle led the Knights in scoring with 14 points, rebounds with 10, and assists with five. Luke Sprague and Justin Benedetti rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 apiece. Braydon Hobbs scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds.
The Knights (4-2, 0-2 GLVC) led by as many as 11 in the middle of the first half, prompted by a shooting barrage that continued throughout the first frame. Bellarmine shot 61 percent from the field in the half, and was 9-for-20 (45 percent) from behind the arc.
Bellarmine cooled off in the second half, as the shooting percentage dipped to 45 percent. Kentucky Wesleyan drained five of 10 shots from long range in the period.
Desmond Stephens of Kentucky Wesleyan (7-1, 1-0 GLVC) led all scorers with 23 points off 7-10 shooting, dishing out a game high six assists. Center Jay Ivey pulled down a team high five rebounds, as the Panthers beat the Knights on the glass, 32-26.
Bellarmine returns to Knights Hall on Friday night for the Bellarmine University Invitational with a game against Ohio Valley University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., following the opening game pitting Southern Indiana and Indiana University Southeast at 5 p.m.
