No. 19 Quincy stages second half comeback to foil Knights 73-68

QUINCY, Ill.—The No. 19 Quincy Hawks erased a 12-point second half deficit and snuck by the Bellarmine  Knights 73-68 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference thriller at Quincy's Pepsi Arena tonight.

The Knights shot the ball well all game, but misfired on several open looks and made just one basket in the game's final two minutes as Quincy finished the game outscoring the Knights 9-4 over the last 2:17 of the game.

Bellarmine took a 37-30 lead into the locker room at the half and built the lead to 12 in the second half when Jeremy Kendle connected on a jumper at the 18:05 mark. The Hawks slowly worked back into the game, thanks in large part by connecting on four of five 3-pointers in the second half.

“It was just a very tough league game between two opponents that knew each other very well,” said Bellarmine Coach Scott Davenport. “It was a game that came down to every possession. We had a run and they answered. And, they had a run and we answered. At the end of the game they had a run that we didn't answer,” Davenport said.

“I thought the key to the game was our inability to defend them in the second half,” Davenport added.

The Knights were led by Jeremy Kendle, who had 18 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Braydon Hobbs dished out six assists for the Knights.

Quincy was paced by Mookie Pierre, who had a game high 20 points.

The Knights fall to 13-7 (6-5 GLVC), and Quincy improves to 17-2 (8-2 GLVC).
