TERRE HAUTE, Ind.--The Bellarmine University women's basketball team opened its 2010-11 season in the same manner as last season--a 32-point exhibition loss to the host Indiana State Sycamores as the Knights dropped an 86-54 decision at the Hulman Center tonight. Last year, Bellarmine opened the season with an 84-52 loss to ISU.
In tonight's action, Bellarmine broke out on top early, building a 14-8 lead over the first 8:08 of the game. However the host Sycamores stormed back to tie the game at 15 with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half. Indiana State then outscored the Knights 20-10 to take a 35-25 halftime lead.
In the second half, Indiana State erupted for 51 points on 62.1 percent shooting. Meanwhile, the Knights managed only 29 points while making just eight of 28 second half shots.
For the game, Bellarmine was held to 29.3 percent shooting and connected on just three of 19 3-point attempts. The Sycamores finished the game with a 47.5 shooting percentage while making eight of 20 from beyond the arc.
Bellarmine was led by sophomore
Jalissa Chatlos, who narrowly missed a double double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Brittany Schoen had game high honors with 20 points for Indiana State.
The Knights get little time to lick their wounds as Bellarmine plays their second and final exhibition game at Xavier University at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
