LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine University women's basketball team picked up a 83-71 victory over the visiting Oakland City University Lady Oaks on Sunday behind 27 points, nine rebounds, and three steals by sophomore Jalissa Chatlos.

Bellarmine (4-3, 1-1 GLVC) has not played since a Dec. 4th game at Southern Indiana, and with finals this week, Coach David Smith was not sure how his team would react.

“With a young team likes ours, you are rolling the dice to see how they handle this schedule, but we stepped up and did what we needed to pull out the win,” said Smith.

Bellarmine jumped out quickly on the Lady Oaks (5-4) as they built an 11-5 lead just four minutes into the game after Chatlos took a steal in for an uncontested layup.

The Knights kept the pressure on as they forced the Lady Oaks into 14 first half turnovers to build a 36-28 halftime lead.

Coming out of the locker room Chatlos took over the game, exploding for 18 points and six rebounds in the second half.

It was a spark that Coach Smith had been looking for in his team. “We need someone to have the mindset that they are going to take over the game and that's what she went out there to do.”

Bellarmine also got 17 points from Lauren Jones, and Kirsten Delph had an all around game of five points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

Coach Smith was quick to point out that contributions are not limited to numbers in the box score. “Allison Osen gave us great minutes off the bench and Kylee Hamilton really looked like the point guard we need her to be. While I think we could have played better, there was still some positives to take away from it.”

The Knights will next travel to Central State on Dec. 14 for a 6 p.m. game against the Marauders.
