LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After beating the No. 2 UIndy Greyhounds on Monday, the Bellarmine Knights kept the momentum going by thrashing the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers 85-46 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest in Knights Hall tonight.

The Knights came out hot taking a 16-2 lead in the first seven minutes of regulation and never let up. Bellarmine reached a first half lead of 22 on a hook shot in the lane by Brittany Edelen with 4:22 left before break, and found themselves leading by 21 at intermission.

Bellarmine came out in the second half with a hot shooting hand, making 56 percent from the floor led by perfect shooting performances from Jalissa Chatlos, Betsy Goodin, and Kirsten Delph. This spectacular shooting helped extend the Knights 11 more in the second half to win by 39.

On a night where all Bellarmine players who dressed for action scored and two players produced double-doubles, Brittany Edelen led the pack with 20 points and 11 rebounds to produce her fourth double-double on the season. Chatlos also tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.  Delph scored a career high 14 points, and Melissa Fitz also reached double digits with 11.

The Knights held a strong edge in rebounding tonight by grabbing 48 boards to the Panthers' 34, while also receiving 37 points off the bench compared to KWC's 19.

“We had a lot of players step up their game tonight,” Coach David Smith said after the game, “Kirsten (Delph) had an outstanding game, while Mellissa (Fitz) really shot well tonight. I was really happy to see us keep the pedal down and extend the lead toward the end of the game with some of our younger players and not stop playing hard.”

Kentucky Wesleyan was led by Katie Behrens who scored in double figures with 12 points.

With the win, Bellarmine climbs to 16-10 on the season, (9-8 GLVC) while KWC falls to 12-14, (5-13 GLVC).

Bellarmine closes out their regular season on Saturday, Feb. 26 for homecoming against the Screaming Eagles of Southern Indiana. Tip is set for 5:45 in Knights Hall.
