DECATUR, Ala. – Bellarmine University won both games it played on Day 2 of the University of Alabama-Huntsville's Charger Softball "Chillout," but lost both on Day 3 and finished the “Chillout” with a 3-3 overall record.
“Overall, I am really proud of them,” Coach Renee Hicks said when she got back from Decatur. "This team will fight until the end.”
The softball team heads to Kissimmee, Fla. for the Rebel games and will open up the classic on Feb. 28 with a game against the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 9 a.m.

Game 3, Feb. 20 10:00 a.m., BU 8, Truman State 0
Bellarmine exploded for seven runs in one inning and “run-ruled” Truman State in an 8-0 shutout. The Knights finished the game with 10 hits and one error while TSU ended with three hits and two errors. Angel Zimmerman, Lauren Hanson and Lauren Summe all tallied two hits for the Knights. Casey Willardearned the complete game shutout producing three strikeouts and one walk in the five-inning.
Game 4, Feb. 20 4:00 p.m., BU 3, Georgia College and State 1
Georgia College and State struck first in the top of the third inning with one run, but Bellarmine countered in the bottom of the inning with two runs to take the lead. The Knights then held GCSU scoreless the rest of way while tacking on another run of their own in fourth to pull out the victory. The Knights had six hits and one error while the Bobcats finished with three hits and two errors. Jordan Basham went 3-3 while Mariya Kobayashi, Summe, and Zimmerman all slapped a hit. Amanda Meyer gets the win while pitching a full game only giving up two walks.
Game 5, Feb 21 9:00 a.m., Arkansas Tech 9, BU 1
The Knights fell to the Golden Suns by eight as the team from Arkansas capitalized on untimely errors and solid hitting to plate seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the 9-1 victory over Bellarmine. The Knights' hitting total matched their hitting total with three. Summe accounted for two-thirds of the Bellarmine hits by going a perfect 2-2.
Game 6, Feb. 21 11:00 a.m., Alabama-Huntsville 3, BU 0
The Chargers, ranked No. 1 in the nation in the preseason poll, handed Bellarmine their second loss of the tournament while scoring three runs on seven hits and no errors. Bellarmine ended the game with three hits and no errors. Summe, Megan Murdoch, and Willard each got a hit for the Knights.
