KENOSHA, Wisc.--The Bellarmine University women's basketball team fell 87-59 tonight to the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at DeSimone Gymnasium.
Just two days after turning in an impressive performance on the road at Lewis, Bellarmine's fortunes were reversed in tonight's contest as the Rangers whipped the Knights in nearly every phase of the game. UWP shot a healthy 55 percent while holding Bellarmine to just 41 percent, and the Rangers ruled the backboards with a 41-21 rebounding advantage.
With the minus-20 rebounding margin, the Knights missed the rebounding of last year's GLVC Freshman of the Year
Jalissa Chatlos, who missed her second consecutive game with a leg injury.
A bright spot for the Knights was freshman
Therese Montano, who equalled her career high with 22 points. The only other Knight to reach double digits was
Allison Matheis with 12.
Lauren Jones, who entered the game leading the conference in scoring at 20.7 points per game, was held to just four. Jadee Rooney of UWP led all scorers with 24.
With the loss, Bellarmine falls to 7-5 overall and draws even in the conference play at 2-2. Wisconsin-Parkside, the preseason favorite to win the GLVC North, moves to 10-2 (4-0 GLVC).
Bellarmine now returns home for a Thursday-Saturday series. On Thursday, the Knights will face Drury at 5:45 p.m. with Rockhurst visiting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
