TERRE HAUTE, Ind. --- Overwhelmed by their Division-I opponent, the Bellarmine University women's basketball fell to the Indiana State Sycamores 84-39 on Friday night in ISU's Hulman Center in the team's only exhibition contest of the season.
Bellarmine did get a game high 16 points from senior
Allison Matheis, as she shot 6-16 from the field, including 4-11 from long range. The Knights also had the game's leading rebounder, as freshman
Darion Hutchinson pulled down 10 boards to go along with six points. Matheis also had eight rebounds of her own.
The host Sycamores played suffocating defense all night, forcing Bellarmine into a 14-55 (25.5%) shooting performance and 25 turnovers.
Indiana State was led by 6-4 senior Shannon Thomas as she filled the stat sheet with 13 points, nine rebounds, and five blocked shots. Brittany Schoen and Deja Mattox also reached double-figures as they had 15 and 12 points respectively.
Bellarmine will now have time to make corrections before their next game, as they open up regular season in Knights Hall next Friday, Nov. 11 in the United Electric Tip-Off Classic against McKendree University, game time is set for 7:00 pm.
