INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The Bellarmine University women's basketball team never could get over the hump and dropped a 71-59 decision to the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds tonight in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both squads.

The Greyhounds jumped out to an early lead 5-0 lead as Nikole Gonser nailed a 3-pointer just six seconds into the game followed by a missed trey by the Knights and a fast break layup by the Hounds.

After falling behind by as many as 12 in the opening period, the Knights closed on a 13-4 run to get within 41-38 at the break.

Coming out of halftime, the Knights' Kylee Hamilton drew first blood with her jumper to close within just one point.  However, the Greyhounds responded with a 3-pointer and Bellarmine committed turnovers on three consecutive possessions as UIndy pushed their lead back to double digits at 50-40 with 14:37 remaining.

The Knights made another run to trim the gap to just five at the 8:34 mark, but could get no closer as the Greyhounds pulled out the 12-point victory.

Bellarmine was led offensively by Betsy Goodin, who came off the bench to pour in 15 points.  Hamiliton added 11 points and Allison Osen hauled in a game high 11 rebounds.
Indianapolis, which outscored the Knights 39-12 from 3-point land, was led by Gonser with 15.

Both teams had their shooting woes with neither team cracking the 40 percent plateau.  The Knights made just 22 of 58 for 37.9 percent while the Greyhounds connected on just 25 of 64 for 39.1 percent.

The Knights did a good job on boards, outrebounding the home squad by a count of 42-34.

Bellarmine falls to 4-2 (0-1 GLVC), while UIndy improves to 4-2 and are 1-0 in league play.

The Knights are back in action Saturday afternoon, as they travel to St. Joseph's for another GLVC contest.
