HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Bellarmine University women's basketball team could not sustain a three-point halftime lead in a 66-43 loss to Northern Kentucky University on Saturday evening at the Bank of Kentucky Center.
Holding a 31-28 advantage at intermission, the Knights were plagued in the second half by five percent shooting (1-19) leading to a season-low 12 points in the frame.
Bellarmine opened the contest by scoring the game's first seven points, which included layups by
Therese Montano and
Lauren Jones. The margin was their largest lead of the game.
Northern Kentucky took their first lead of the game at the five minute mark of the period when Kendra Caldwell connected on a layup off a Kayla Thacker steal to give the home side a 20-19 advantage.
Jones led the Knights in the scoring department with 14 points off 3-10 shooting from the field.
Kylee Hamilton (12) and Montano (11) were the other Bellarmine players to score in double figures.
Bellarmine committed 18 turnovers, compared to the Norse's 10. The Knights were also outrebounded 48-33, including 15-4 on the offensive glass.
The Knights return to the court on Monday for a game against the University of Indianapolis. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. at Knights Hall.
