LOUISVILLE, Ky.---The Bellarmine University women's basketball team dropped a 53-79 contest on Monday night to the University of Indianapolis in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Knights were paced by 17 points and seven rebounds from junior
Lauren Jones.
The loss drops Bellarmine to 11-13, 6-10 on the season while the Greyhounds improve to 14-11, 9-8 in conference play.
The Knights struggled from the opening tip as they misfired on their first ten shots from the field, falling behind 2-10 in the games first seven minutes.
Bellarmine's cold shooting continued throughout the first half as they connected on just 5-30 (16.7%) field goals in the opening period, trailing 18-41 going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Bellarmine hit their shots as
Jalissa Chatlos broke free for a layup on the Knights first possession.
Even shooting 13-26 (50.0%) in the second half, the Knights could not overcome the slow start, never getting closer than 21 before finally falling 53-79.
Jones led all scorers with 17 hitting on five one nine shots, who also got 9 points and three assists from sophomore
Chelsea Hawkins. The Knights did take care of the ball as they had a season low 10 turnovers on the game.
The Greyhounds had four players in double figures led by Shelby Wall's 14 on 4-6 shooting from behind the arc.
Bellarmine will return to action on Thursday nights as they host Southern Indiana for a 5:45 p.m. tip off.
