LOUISVILLE, Ky—The Bellarmine University women's basketball team dropped their regular season finale 85-77 to visiting Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday night, Bellarmine was led by freshman guard
Kylee Hamilton's game high 23 points.
The game was competitive from the tip off as neither team could get more than a four points in the game's first 15.
The Knights (11-15, 6-12 GLVC) stretched the lead out to seven on a
Lauren Jones lead layup with 2:34 left in the half to take a 41-34 lead. The visiting Panthers (17-8, 11-7 GLVC)fought back though as the pulled within three going into intermission as the score was 43-40.
Hamilton was the story of the opening period as she scored 18 points on 6-9 shooting, including a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc.
Bellarmine again came out firing from the start of the second half as they built an 11 point lead on a
Kirsten Delph layup 4:32.
Back came Kentucky Wesleyan as they would go on a 13-4 over the next five minutes to pull within two, they would eventually take the lead for good at the 8:04 mark.
The Panthers would lock down Hamilton in the second half as she was held to just five points on 1-5 shooting.
Hamilton led three Knights in double figures as Jones had 17 points and
Allison Matheis chipped in 14 off the bench.
The Panthers put four players in double figures led by Katie Behrens's 20.
For the game Bellarmine shot 25-60 (41.7%) from the field including 10-19 (52.6%) and also came up with 10 steals.
The Knights will now move into the Great Lakes Valley tournament as they will travel to Kenosha, Wisc. and take on Wisconsin-Parkside next Saturday.
