LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- While most college students use Spring Break for down time away from class, the Bellarmine University softball team will be all business as they participate in the 2011 Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. where they will play eight games over the week.
Bellarmine (7-3) is off to a blazing start thanks mostly to their hot bats that have produced 10 home runs already including four by
Megan Murdoch. Junior
Jordan Basham is chasing some home run history of her own as she is currently tied for second on the career list with 22, only four behind Laura Allgeier for tops on the list.
Coach
Renee Hicks has gotten plenty of production from the heart of the lineup as Murdoch, Basham, and first basemen
Lauren Summe have combined to bat .422 with 20 runs, 22 RBI's, and six home runs.
The Knights have also gotten tremendous pitching from the trio of
Casey Willard,
Amanda Meyer, and
Kaitlin Flak. All three pitchers have a sub 2.50 ERA as opposing teams have had few opportunities to put runs on the board.
There will be plenty of competition in Kissimmee as the Knights will face No. 20 Ashland as well as Saginaw Valley State and Minnesota-Mankato, two teams just outside of the top 25.
Bellarmine will kick off the Rebel Spring Games on March 6, with a matchup against Shippensburg University set for a 9:00 a.m. first pitch.
