Knights continue to roll in Puerto Rico

12/16/2012 6:01:00 PM

Box Score SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico --- Playing their second game of a three game swing in Puerto Rico, the Bellarmine University women's basketball team cruised to a 66-45 victory over the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Sunday afternoon.

Official stats were not available, but Darion Hutchinson had her second consecutive solid performance by leading the team with 15 points while junior forward Kelsey Lamb chipped in 14 of her own.

The long travel combined with a hangover from final exams led to a sluggish opening performance on the island in Friday's opening game, but the Knights were sharper this time around as they came out with a high-level on intensity, especially on the defensive end.

“I loved the effort, especially on the defensive side,” said Coach Chancellor Dugan. “We came down here to work on a few things and having that level of intensity is something we can build off of.” Dugan also noted that guards Kylie Brady and Therese Montano had steady performances in the face of a good defensive game plan from Rio Piedras.

Bellarmine will play one more game in San Juan on Tuesday afternoon against the University of Puerto-Rico-Rio Piedras.
