Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- A big first half propelled the Bellarmine University women's basketball team to an 81-69 victory over the scrappy Georgetown College Tigers on Tuesday night in Knights Hall.

All eleven players that saw action for Coach Chancellor Dugan scored as Bellarmine, who moves to 5-1 on the year, never trailed in the game.

The teams traded 8-0 runs to start out with the Knights hitting on all cylinders in the first two minutes, forcing Georgetown to call timeout after a Kylie Brady jumper gave BU an eight point cushion. The Tigers counted with a spurt of their own, getting four points apiece from Devon Golden and Andrea Howard to draw even.

Betsy Goodin, the team's energetic sixth-man, then scored Bellarmine's next eight points to help the Knights build a 16-10 lead that they would never relinquish. Goodin finished with a team-high 20 points on 9-11 shooting, while pulling down six boards.

Goodin's play off the bench continues to impress her first-year coach. “I love the instant energy that Betsy brings when she enters the game. It forces the other team to account for her on every play, on both ends of the court,” said Dugan, adding in that the senior from Lexington, Ky. played just 17 minutes.

Led by Goodin's 10 first half points, Bellarmine raced out to a 40-23 lead at the break, shooting 56.3% from the field, connecting on 18-32 shots. On the defensive side, the Knights afforded their visitors from down I-64 few open looks,  with Georgetown shooting 33.3% in the first half and misfired on all 10 attempts from beyond the arc.

Bellarmine built their lead to as many as 27 in the second half before the resilient Tigers clawed back into the game. Aided by Golden, who had 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 steals in the second period, Georgetown cut the lead to 10 with 1:24 to play, before settling for an 11 point defeat.

“We've got to be tougher as a team. We were guilty of getting too comfortable with the lead,” commented Dugan before adding in a positive outlook. “I'll take a 5-1 record right now. You can tell the girls are getting better after each practice.” Georgetown, who drops to 4-3 on the year, was ranked No. 6 in the NAIA Div.-I preseason poll.

Sophomore Morgan Clemons had an all-around night of 11 points, 7 rebounds, and a career-high 5 assists while Kelsey Lamb was the only other player to reach double-figures with 10.

Even while Georgetown made a run in the second half, Bellarmine never lost their hot touch, finishing the game shooting 55.7% (34-61) from the field. It is the team's best performance since they connected on 57.9% of their shots in the third game of last season, an 80-55 drubbing of Central State.

After the upcoming finals week for the team and university, Bellarmine will look to relieve that stress as they travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico next week to play three games abroad.
