Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. — In their first road game in four weeks, the Bellarmine Women's basketball team saw their three-game win streak come to a close with a 76-52 loss to the Union University Bulldogs in Jackson, Tenn. on Monday night.

Freshman guard Destony Curry led the way for Bellarmine with 11 points on 4-for-11 shooting, and 2-for-6 from three-point range. Sophomore guard Mariah Gador added eight points, seven rebounds, and two assists in her 26 minutes of action.

The first half has been kind to the Knights this season as they had outscored their opponents in the first period in four out of five games entering Monday's contest, and have shot better than 44 percent from the field.

Bellarmine (3-3) appeared to be headed to another strong first half performance as they jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead over the home side in the first 4:28 of the game. Junior forward Morgan Clemons put in a layup just three seconds into the game and the Knights kept up the pressure, knocking down three straight threes, one by sophomore guard Mackenzie Martinez and two by Gador, to extend the lead to 11-0.

Despite the strong start, Union responded with a 30-9 run of their own over the next 10:40, stealing the lead away from Bellarmine and holding an advantage for the remainder of the period. The Knights went to break down by 5, 29-34.

In the opening period, Bellarmine shot 10-for-25 (40.0 percent) from the field to Union's 13-for-34 shooting (38.2 percent). The difference in the period were the Knights' eight turnovers, compared to the Bulldogs' two.

The second half did not get any better for the shellshocked Bellarmine squad. The Bulldogs began the second half on a 17-4 run, pushing the Knights' deficit to 18, 33-51, with 11:35 left in the game.

Union (6-1) stretched their advantage to a game-high 26 points with 4:04 remaining following another 10-0 Bulldogs run.

The Knights fought back, closing the gap to 20, 49-69, with 1:46 left, after two layups by sophomore forward Sarah Galvin and a free throw by freshman guard Mercedes Cox. However, the run was too little and too late, and Bellarmine fell by a final score of 52-76.

Bellarmine only committed four turnovers in the second half, but were plagued by an 8-for-32 (25.0 percent) shooting performance in the period including 1-for-9 (11.1 percent) from three.

The Bulldogs were paced by a 16-point, four rebound, and five assist performance by junior guard Astrid Huttemann. Union senior guard Christina Coney recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards off the bench.

Bellarmine was able to hold Union's two leading scorers, senior guard Amy Philamlee (20.8 ppg) and junior guard LaTesa McLaughlin (11.0 ppg), to a combined nine points on 4-for-11 shooting, and 0-for-3 on three-point attempts. Both Philamlee and McLaughlin recorded their worst shooting performances of the season against the Knights' defense.

For the game, Bellarmine shot 18-for-57 (31.6 percent) from the field, 6-for-22 (27.3 percent) from behind the arc, and 10-for-20 (50.0 percent) from the free throw line.

Union managed 28-for-63 (44.4 percent) from the field, 9-for-25 (36.0 percent) from three, and 11-for-14 (78.6 percent) from the line.

The Knights finished the game with 40 rebounds, nine assists, 12 turnovers, a block, and five steals. The Bulldogs grabbed 43 rebounds, had 17 assists, seven turnovers, three blocks, and recorded nine steals.

Next up for Bellarmine are back-to-back games in Knights Hall on Friday, Dec. 20 at 7:15 p.m. against Wayne State and Saturday, Dec. 21 at 7:15 p.m. versus Trevecca Nazarene.
