Game 1: Ashland 4, Bellarmine 0
Box Score
Bellarmine couldn't find an answer to Ashland's Sarah Alley as the sophomore pitcher held the Knights at bay in the opener, giving up just 2 hits and a walk in 7.0 innings of work, registering 7 K's along the way.
After both teams went three-up, three-down in the first, the Eagles put the game's first baserunner on when Alley was able to reach on an error by centerfielder
Ally Foster. But Foster would atone for her mistake later in the inning by throwing a laser from her centerfield position to catcher
Scarlett Powers, who tagged Alley out at the plate.
In the second, the Knights defense came up huge again as
Kelsey Hicks threw a strike to Powers at home, preserving the shutout by applying the tag to AU's Jenn Moore.
The third time was a charm for Ashland though as the Eagles finally put a run on the board when Jerrica Young singled up the middle to bring home Cayla Siedler. The damage could have been worse with Ashland loading the bases with two outs, but Bellarmine's
Tanner Tevis was able to end the threat by getting Alley to look at strike three.
Ashland tacked on three more runs in the top of the 7th on a home run by Jessica Yarnall to get to the final.
Tevis went the distance for BU, giving up 3 earned runs on 12 hits while striking out three.
Game 2: Bellarmine 3, Lincoln Memorial 0
Box Score
After showing off her arm in the opener, Foster displayed her all-around game by hitting a towering 3-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to power the Knights in game two. It's the second home run of the season for the freshman from Louisville's Christian Academy and gives her 7 RBI's in 2013, tied for the team lead.
Unlike in the opener, the Knights had little trouble putting runners on, but couldn't bring them home. Bellarmine stranded 8 runners in the first four innings, including leaving the bases juiced in the 3rd and 4th.
But
Alicia Miller kept a clean sheet from the circle, picking up her second win of the season by tossing 7.0 shutout innings and giving up only four hits. The sophomore from Alexandria, Ky. also matched her career-high by ringing up 5 strikeouts.
Miller was especially good down the stretch of the game, retiring the final 10 Railsplitters in order.
Entering the bottom of the sixth in a scoreless tie, Lincoln Memorial got the first two Knights to ground out harmlessly. Junior
Abby Lenhart started the surge by finding space in centerfield, stretching it out to a double.
Kelsey Hicks followed with an infield single to move runners to the corner to set up Foster's bomb.
