LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Facing their second top-15 team in a week, the Bellarmine University women's basketball team suffered a 72-86 conference loss to the 14th-ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds on Thursday night at Knights Hall. Sophomore forward Sarah Galvin scored a career-high 30 points for the Knights in the loss.

"It's disappointing," said head coach Chancellor Dugan. "Our mistakes were not hustle mistakes, but we have to work a little harder and a little smarter. We'll Get it, and we get to play them again."

Three players scored double figures for Bellarmine. Junior forward Morgan Clemons netted 11 points and senior forward Kelsey Lamb scored 13.

Two free throws by Galvin gave Bellarmine its largest lead of the game, 8-4, four minutes into the game, but a 9-0 Greyhounds run turned the tides on the Knights. For the rest of the half, Indianapolis countered Bellarmine's buckets with their fast-paced running offense and stifled any opportunity the Knights had to take a lead. The Greyhounds finished the half with another 10-4 run and BU went to the locker room facing a 10-point, 32-42, deficit.

"I thought we started really well," said Dugan. "But they're seniors and they don't get rattled."

Despite a dominant 16-point performance from Galvin in the first half, the Greyhounds attacked the BU defense and shot 15-for-30 (50 percent) from the field and hit 10 of their 13 free throws. Bellarmine was whistled for 11 fouls in the first period which resulted in 13 trips to the charity stripe for the visitors from Indianapolis, and both sophomore guard Mariah Gador and sophomore guard Mackenzie Martinez were forced to take seats on the bench with three first half fouls.

Bellarmine (6-7, 2-3 GLVC) was 13-for-32 (40.6 percent) from the field in the first 20 minutes and forced seven turnovers. Senior guard Therese Montano had seven assists in the first half as part of the Knights' 11 assist, six turnover period.

Bellarmine surged out of the gates in the second half and, riding a 13-2 run, cut the deficit to two, 47-49, with 14:18 remaining, on a jumper by Lamb. The Knights forced four turnovers over the run and held the Greyhounds to 1-for-6 from the field. Bellarmine was 3-for-4 from the floor and field and 7-for-8 from the line in the run. Galvin had six straight points in the run, Lamb had four, and Clemons rounded it out with three of her own.

However, UIndy (14-2, 5-0 GLVC) responded with a 10-0 run of their own. The Greyhounds took a 55-52 lead with 10:32 remaining and stretched it to 13, 65-52, in just two minutes.

Bellarmine pulled within eight on a layup by Galvin with 6:12 to play, but would not get any closer. Down the stretch, Indianapolis capitalized on their opportunities from the field and the line and ended the game with a 14-point advantage, as the Knights took a tough 86-72 loss.

Bellarmine was whistled for 14 fouls in the second half alone, and Indianapolis hit 13-of-24 from the field and 16-of-20 free throws in the period. Bellarmine shot 12-for-29 (41.4 percent) in the half with seven assists and five turnovers.

For the game, the Knights shot 25-for-61 (41.0 percent) from the field, 4-for-20 (20.0 percent) from three-point range, and 18-for-25 (72 percent) from the field free throw line. They tied their season-low with 11 turnovers and dished out 18 assists as a team. Bellarmine also blocked two shots and collected seven steals. As a team, the Knights shot 25-of-45 (55.5 percent) from inside the arc.

Indianapolis shot 28-for-54 (51.9 percent) from the field, 4-for-11 from three, and 26-for-33 from the line. The Greyhounds committed 15 turnovers, had 15 assists, five blocks, and seven steals in the contest. Senior Guard Katy McIntosh had 29 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists to lead UIndy. McIntosh also hit 15 of her 17 free throws. Redshirt-junior forward Kirsten Gliesmann had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Galvin's career-high 30-point performance for Bellarmine tops her 29-point game against North Alabama earlier this season. The Hendersonville, Tenn. native hit 10 of her 18 shots from the floor and 10 of her 12 free throws. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and team-best two steals in 27 minutes on the court. Clemons was 5-for-9 from the floor for her 11 points and Lamb had 13 off the bench on 3-for-3 shooting and 7-for-10 from the line. Montano finished with her career-high nine assists.

"We'll be all right. We'll be ready for Saint Joseph's on Saturday," said Dugan.

The Knights look to rebound against Saint Joseph's College on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1:00 p.m. Bellarmine is 45-17 all-time against the Pumas and won a 30-point contest last season, 87-57.
