Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga.—The Bellarmine University Knights jumped on Catawba early and never let up in recording a 7-2 victory at the Columbus State Classic tonight.
Hannah Daunhauer and
Erica Knollman each went 2-for-4 with Daunhauer adding two RBIs and a run scored. The Knights banged out 11 hits in the game as every player but one who got an at-bat registered a hit.
The Knights (7-5) couldn't have asked for a much better start to the game. Playing as the home team in the neutral site game, starting pitcher
Alicia Miller sat down the first three Catawba players in order, then the Knights rang up five runs in the bottom of the first with RBIs provided by
Scarlett Powers, Daunhauer,
Amy Feie,
Kelly Ely, and Knollman.
Although Catawba (6-3) responded with a run in the second then another in the fifth, the Knights matched those runs in the bottom half of those innings to keep their lead at five for the entire game.
Ally Foster came on in relief of Foster and worked the final three innings to pick up the save, striking out the side in the top of the seventh.
Bellarmine returns to action on Sunday morning against the same Catawba club, then faces Lincoln Memorial to conclude stay at the Columbus Classic
