Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ga.—The Bellarmine softball concluded its appearance at the Columbus State Classic with a 4-2 mark after dropping a Sunday morning contest to Catawba 3-2 before rebounding with a 5-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial.
A pair of unearned runs in the top of the second gave Catawba an early 2-0 lead. The Knights got one of those back in the bottom of the inning with a pair of singles a walk and hit batter.
The score remained 2-1 until the seventh when Catawba collected three of their eight hits on the day to push across another run.
Ally Foster connected for her second homer of the year in the bottom of the seventh, but Bellarmine could get no closer and fell by the final of 3-2.
The Knights had no time to consider their loss as they played Lincoln Memorial immediately after the Catawba game.
As the visitors in game two, the Knights struck first by plating a run in their first at bat as Foster reached on an error and scored on a single by
Scarlett Powers.
The Knights added three more runs in the top of the fourth as
Tabby Shewmaker smacked a pinch hit single that drove in
Kelly Ely and
Rachel Fox. Shewmaker would later come around to score on Lincoln Memorial error.
Bellarmine closed out the scoring in the top of the seventh when
Melissa Hammer singled, stole second and later scored on a Powers single.
Alicia Miller was effective in the circle for the Knights in game two, keeping the Railsplitters off the scoreboard in her five innings. Foster worked the final two and completed the shutout by striking out five of the nine batters she faced.
The Knights move to 8-6 on the year with their next action scheduled for Tuesday at Lindenwood in St. Charles, Mo.
