LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine University volleyball team swept the visiting Drury Panthers (25-18, 25-20, 27-25) tonight in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match in Knights Hall.
Bellarmine started slowly, but after taking its first lead at 11-10 in the first set, the Knights never looked back.
Bellarmine was bolstered by a strong attack all night, finishing with a .311 hitting percentage. Junior
Hayden Dailey swung at a .423 clip while recording 13 kills.
Katie Adams took advantage of more playing time and hit .412 and rung up eight kills.
Meanwhile, Bellarmine junior outside hitter
Margaret Horihan continued her assault on the GLVC by racking 20 kills tonight, marking the fifth match in a row she has had at least 20 kills. The Rockford, Illinois native increased her league-leading kills per set average to 3.93.
Defensively, Bellarmine libero
Jordyn Kuchenbrod amassed 18 digs over the first two sets and finished with 23. The Louisville Assumption graduate, who entered the contest as the national leader in total digs, also is a GLVC leader, and upped her digs per set average to 6.47.
On the other side of the net, the Panthers managed just 39 kills on the night with 21 attack errors. Drury's Mara Bentley was the only Panther in double digit kills with 10.
The Knights improve to 16-9 overall and 5-7 in league play, and the Panthers fall to 17-8, 7-5 GLVC.
Bellarmine returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they face Missouri S&T in a 2 p.m. "Senior Day" contest. The Knights will honor seniors
Ashley Jefferson and
Abby Biggs prior to play tomorrow.
