KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team didn't collect its first road win, but the Knights also didn't drop another contest away from Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
On Friday at Truman State, the visiting Knights played to their first draw of the season, tying the Bulldogs 1-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Sophomore forward
Tomas Bernedo scored his first goal of the season for Bellarmine (7-4-1, 5-4-1 GLVC), which entered with a winless 0-4 road record and an undefeated 7-0 home mark. Freshman midfielder
Jonas Skulstad collected an assist against Truman State (3-10-1, 2-8-1).
Bellarmine scored early in the match. In the 13th minute, Truman State goalkeeper Jory Knernschield knocked down a shot by Skulstad, but Bernedo was there to tuck in the rebound for a 1-0 lead.
It stayed that way until deep in the second half. Unfortunately for the Knights, the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick in the 80th minute, and Matt Yankowitz made good on the opportunity to knot the match.
Neither team scored thereafter. Bellarmine was extremely accurate with its chances, with 11 of the Knights' 13 shots coming on goal. Truman State totaled nine shots, with four coming on frame.
Bellarmine plays at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at William Jewell.
