DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. — Bellarmine dominated the game against the host Mercy Mavericks, but that failed to translate to a victory for the Knights on Saturday. Instead, Mercy pulled out a 1-0 overtime victory over Bellarmine in an Eastern College Athletic Conference game at Mercy Field.
Bellarmine was the aggressor the entire game, firing off 13 shots to just four for the Mavericks. The Knights also owned a 14-1 advantage in penalty corners, but it was Mercy's success on its one corner that propelled them to victory.
Four minutes into the overtime period—74 minutes into the game—Mercy was awarded its first corner, and although Bellarmine goalie
Heather Gregory saved a shot off the stick of Mercy's Kayly Bryan, Alicia Williams was there for the Mavericks to collect the rebound and score the game winner.
The loss drops Bellarmine to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in the ECAC while Mercy earns its first conference win to improve to 4-10, 1-7 ECAC.
Bellarmine will stay in New York to play its next two games. On Sunday, the Knights take on Molloy College followed by a game against LIU Post on Monday.
