SEAFORD, N.Y. — The Bellarmine University field hockey team got its offense rolling in the second half and cruised to a 4-0 victory over the host Molloy Lions today in a non-conference game at Cedar Creek Park.
Sophomore
Merit Harris turned in a big game for the Knights, scoring three of the four Bellarmine goals and assisting on a goal by
Lindsay Reynolds.
April Paulson notched two assists for Bellarmine.
The Knights started strong with a goal less than two minutes into the game, but came up empty on 10 additional first half shots. In the second period, the Knights made good on three of their 10 shots.
Bellarmine Coach
Mark Blankenbaker said, "We started well today with a quick goal, then we relaxed and reverted to our bad habits. After halftime we played with more intensity and focus."
Blankenbaker added that Harris helped lead the team all phases today. "Merit had a big game, not only scoring three goals and having an assist, but she played good defense and was all over the field," he said. "She really picked everyone up today."
The Knights improve to 6-9 on the season while Molloy falls to 0-14.
Bellarmine faces fourth-ranked LIU Post at 3 p.m. on Sunday. "Big challenge tomorrow," Blankenbaker said. "We will need to play together and make smart decisions."
