AURORA, Ill.—The Bellarmine volleyball team saw its 2017 Midwest Region Crossover Tournament record slip to 1-2 on Saturday afternoon as the Knights dropped a four-set match to Hillsdale in the Great Lakes Center.
After Hillsdale pulled out a 25-20 win in the opening set, Bellarmine fought back with a .324 hitting percentage in the second game for a 25-19 win to square the match 1-1.
The Chargers, who were the No. 2 seed from the Great Midwest Conference, hit .290 in set three and .344 in set three to separate themselves from the Knights and win the match with 25-14 and 25-15 victories in the last two games.
Senior outside hitter
Margaret Horihan had another solid outing for the Knights with 17 kills while freshman middle
Abbie Oetting added eight kills with a .467 hitting percentage.
Three different Chargers recorded double digit kills with Kara Vyletel leading the trio with 14. As a team Hillsdale rang up 56 kills while the Knights managed just 45.
Bellarmine—the No. 3 seed from the GLVC—falls to 16-5 overall while Hillsdale ups its season mark to 18-3.
The Knights can take solace in the fact that the GLVC easily outdistanced the GMAC and GLIAC in the Crossover Tournament, which is the largest collegiate volleyball tournament in the country. Overall, the GLVC went 31-14 (.689) in the event while the GMAC was 10-17 (.370) and the GLIAC finished 13-23 (.361).
Bellarmine returns to GLVC action on Friday, hosting Southern Indiana in a 7 p.m. match before hosting the No. 1-ranked Lewis Flyers on Saturday afternoon.
