Knights men's soccer beats Drury 3-2 to finish regular season 9-0 at Frazier Stadium

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Talk about an encore.

Two days after ending second-ranked Rockhurst's undefeated run, the Bellarmine University men's soccer team on Sunday concluded its season-long dominance at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium with a 3-2 victory over Drury in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

With the victory, Bellarmine (10-4-1, 8-4-1 GLVC) finished the regular season 9-0 at Frazier Stadium. Fittingly on Senior Day, the Knights' three goals against the Panthers (7-7-1, 6-6-1) were accounted for by three seniors. They came from midfielders Callum Southern, Beau Laufer and Nathan Jones. Senior forward Joe Workman chipped in an assist, as did freshman defender Greg Fischer and sophomore midfielder Gilio Aviles.

Bellarmine's sizzling offense has now produced two or more goals in five of its last six matches. The trifecta of scores Sunday began with Southern, who sank his team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 27th minute off a feed from Fischer for a 1-0 advantage. It was Fischer's team-best sixth assist of the year.

Bellarmine bumped the lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute on Laufer's first goal of the season. He received a pass from Workman toward the center of the field and laced a shot from 22 yards inside the left post.

Drury gained some momentum leading into halftime when Joao Coelho headed in a corner kick from Pierre Villez in the 42nd minute.

After the intermission, Bellarmine got a valuable insurance goal in the 79th minute when Jones tapped in a cross from Aviles where the shot broke the plane of the goal line just before a Drury defender cleared it out. It was Jones' first goal of the season and proved to be the game-winner as the Panthers scored in the 82nd minute when Brody Johnson headed in a cross from Joe Fehr.

With GLVC matches still in progress, Bellarmine was tied with Illinois Springfield for fifth in the league standings. The Knights have clinched one of the eight slots in the GLVC Tournament.

Bellarmine concludes the regular season at 2 p.m. (ET) Wednesday at Missouri-St. Louis.
