LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine Knights volleyball team defended its home turf by turning back the visiting Indianapolis Greyhounds in four sets (25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18) on Tuesday night in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match in Knights Hall.
Bellarmine was on the verge of a sweep, but UIndy rallied from an 18-10 deficit to claim set number three by a count of 25-22. The Knights rebounded in the fourth set and turned in a .342 hitting percentage to close out the Hounds with a 25-18 win.
Three Knights turned in 10-plus kills on the night, led by
Margaret Horihan's 17-kill effort.
Katie Adams swung at a .280 clip and put down 13 kills while sophomore
Jacquie Hornung recorded a career-high 10 kills.
Bellarmine setter
Allie Muha was effective with her attack attempts, recording five kills on just 11 attacks. She also dished out 47 assists and came up with 17 digs, marking the 11th time this season she has recorded a double-double.
Defensively, the Knights "outdug" the Greyounds 89-77 despite a 41-dig performance by UIndy libero Olivia Martin. For Bellarmine,
Jordyn Kuchenbrod recorded 29 digs, and
Karleigh Wilson matched Muha with 17.
The Greyhounds were paced offensively by Rachel Irbe and Anna Fehribach with 15 and 14 kills respectively.
Bellarmine improves to 13-3 overall and are now tied with UIndy for third place in the GLVC East Division with a 4-3 record. The Greyhounds slip to 9-7 overall.
The Knights stay in town for their next two games, facing Drury on Friday Knights at 7 p.m. and Rockhurst on Saturday at 3 p.m.
