Knights pick up win No. 20 with sweep of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS—For the first time in the rally-scoring era of collegiate volleyball, the Knights have reached the 20-win plateau on the season.

Not since 1998 had Bellarmine posted 20 or more wins in a season, but tonight's road sweep of the Indianapolis Greyhounds allowed the Knights to reach that benchmark as BU improved to 20-6 this year.

Bellarmine's 25-19, 25-20, 25-22 victory in tonight's Great Lakes Valley Conference match in the Ruth Lily Center also gave the Knights a 10-4 league record, which ranks as third-best in the conference.

The Knights were led—as they have been virtually all season—by seniors Margaret Horihan and Allie Muha on offense and Jordyn Kuchenbrod on defense.

Horihan posted her 13th double-double of the season with a match-high 15 kills while adding 13 digs.  Muha dished out 32 assists to raise her career total to 4,014 and become just the fourth Knight to eclipse the 4,000-assist mark. The senior from Cincinnati also added five kills on the night. Meanwhile, Kuchenbrod came up with 27 of Bellarmine's 65 digs.

The Knights' offense also got a lift from Hayden Dailey, who recorded six kills and added three service aces. Megan Kimbley also provided a spark with five kills on just 10 swings in limited court time.

In the first set, Bellarmine opened up a solid seven-point lead only to see the Greyhounds reel off five in row to trim the lead to just 18-16.  However, the Knights regrouped to score six of the game's final seven points to win by six.

Game two was tightly contested until Bellarmine broke open a 12-12 tie with a 5-0 run and went on to a 25-20 victory.

The third set was all UIndy in the early going as the home team sprinted out to a 6-0 advantage. Bellarmine slowly scratched away at the lead and drew even at 13-13 and completed the third set comeback with a 25-22 victory.

The Greyhounds, who slipped to 12-15, 7-7 GLVC, were led by Teigen Flaws with 20 kills on just 20 total attacks.

Bellarmine returns to action on Friday when they host Maryville in a 7 p.m. match. On Saturday, the Knights close out their home schedule with a senior day match at 3 p.m. against Quincy.
