Knights victorious on Senior Day to finish 12-1 at home

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—It's been a very good year for Bellarmine volleyball, and on Saturday afternoon in Knights Hall, the Knights added another highlight to the season:  a senior day victory that pushed BU's 2017 home record to a sparking 12-1 on the season.

However, it didn't come easily as the visiting Quincy Hawks proved to be a tenacious opponent in the Great Lakes Valley Conference match.  The Knights ultimately prevailed 3-1 with three seniors recording double digit kills and senior setter Allie Muha dishing out 56 assists.  Bellarmine also got a huge effort from junior libero Jordyn Kuchenbrod with a career-high 43 digs.

While the senior day activities had a celebratory tone, the mood turned somber after the Hawks fought off  three set points and took set one 31-29. The Knights rebounded in convincing fashion, though, sweeping the final three sets 25-16, 25-21, 25-22.

Margaret Horihan continued to put up impressive numbers by tallying her 14th double-double of the year with 18 kills and 17 digs.  Fellow seniors Bridget Guinane and Hayden Dailey also closed their home careers in grand style. Guinane recorded 11 kills, a solo block and three assisted blocks while Dailey hammered home 12 kills and added seven digs and two service aces.

Muha also made her senior day memorable by becoming just the second player in Bellarmine history to go over 4,100 assists in a career.  With 56 today, she ran her total to 4,106.

Speaking of historic performances, Kuchenbrod's 43 digs were the most in a GLVC match this year and were the fourth-most ever by a Knight.

With today's victory, Bellarmine improves to 22-6 overall with the 22 wins representing the third-most in school history. The Knights also ran their GLVC mark to 12-4, which guarantees Bellarmine a berth in the GLVC postseason tournament.

Quincy got solid efforts from Bekah Raebel with 24 kills and Marissa Gonzalez with 30 digs.  The Hawks drop to 7-20 and 4-12 in league play.

The Knights close out their regular season with a pair of road games this coming week, traveling to Lewis on Tuesday night and Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday.
