Knights drop 3-1 decision to Lindenwood in ECAC debut

ST. CHARLES, Mo.—The host Lindenwood Lions roared out of the gate, taking an early 3-0 lead, then held on to defeat the Bellarmine Knights 3-1 in an Eastern College Athletic Conference game today at Hunter Stadium.

The hot start by Lindenwood saw the hosts hold a 9-0 advantage in shots at one point as they led 3-0 at halftime, outshooting the Knights 11-4 in the opening period.

After the break, the Knights were much more competitive, but couldn't get a shot in the cage until Carly Anson converted a penalty stroke with less than 15 minutes remaining in the game.

In yesterday's victory over Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Bellarmine took advantage of penalty corners—converting three of six in the second half.  Against the Lions today, Bellarmine created chances and held a 9-7 advantage in corners, but could not convert.

For the game, Lindenwood finished with a 16-8 edge in shots, but Bellarmine goalie Heather Gregory kept the Knights in range by coming up with seven saves.

Bellarmine falls to 1-1 on the season and starts 0-1 in the ECAC.  Lindenwood improves to 2-0 with a 1-0 record in league play.

The Knights return to action on Friday with a noon game at home against ECAC foe Limestone.
