BELMONT, N.C..—The Bellarmine field hockey team picked up a road win today at Belmont Abbey College, downing the Crusaders 4-2 at Alumni Field.
The victory gives Bellarmine a season sweep over Belmont Abbey as the Knights notched a 3-0 win in Frazier Stadium on Oct. 20.
In today's game, Bellarmine jumped on top early and never trailed.
Lindsay Reynolds gave the Knights the lead in the game's seventh minute when she rang up season goal number five. Reynolds struck again in the 23rd minute off an assist from
Jillian Fazio.
The Crusaders broke through for a goal with 7:12 remaining in the half, but
Mandi Isom converted off a feed from
Merit Harris before halftime, and the Knights took a 3-1 lead into the intermission.
Bellarmine extended the margin to three 7:19 into the second half as Fazio scored to put the Knights up 4-1.
From there, it was mostly a defensive struggle as the teams combined for just seven shots in the second period. Belmont Abbey cashed in on one of its four shots to trim the Bellarmine cushion to two with about nine minutes remaining, but neither team scored the rest of the way.
For the game, the Knights owned a 14-9 shot advantage, and Bellarmine was a plus-one on penalty corners (5-4).
